Feeling sick and helpless....
« on: October 31, 2010, 04:50:12 PM »
Well. I decided to chase some tail around last night instead of hunting blacktail this morning with my Dad. I just got a call from him saying that he and his friend had been looking for the biggest deer he has ever seen since 9:30 or 10. Sounds like his shot placement was a little back but not by much. It also sounds as if this Big old buck headed for the thickest steepest stuff around. They were able to find blood for a couple hundred yards then lost the trail. My dad is sick to his stomach but out there till the bitter end looking. Unfortunately I am unable to help and he is unable to look past today. Not looking good for recovery. I always hear that this can happen to any hunter.....It just really sucks when it happens to you or your partner. S#!T!!!

Well yoter I can tell you that the antlers are the least of our concerns. I wasnt even there and lost sleep over this. I know my dad has lost a lot of sleep over this. Its amazing how much joy and happiness one gets from harvesting a deer. And how much anguish\sadness there is when you are unable to recover a deer that surely died. Its sad. Plain and simple. A waste of a fine animal. I know for many, many hunting seasons to come we will talk about it and we will feel the same about it then as we do now. Just plain crappy.....

Very sorry to hear that, maybe with a little luck you can still find the buck. Dont give up just yet. If he marked the location with a GPS you might be able to do a grid pattern search of the area. Good luck  :twocents:
